Who are the leaders? – Scouts

Almost all adults in Scouting, including uniformed leaders, are volunteers. They give their time for free. But they are trained volunteers – the Scout Association has a thorough training programme that all Leaders undertake. All leaders have to undergo a full DBS check, supply personal references and be approved by an Adult Appointments Committee before their first appointment. Appointments are also subject to regular review and renewal and all leaders must also hold a valid first aid certificate.

Each section has its own leadership team and runs its own programme but there are close links between the sections. The Group Scout Leader, John, provides support for all the sections.  There are currently three leaders in the scout section but they could always do with more adult help.

John Elliott is our Scout Leader and Group Scout Leader, James Melia, and James Denley, both sectional assistants, – working together as a team they run the Scout Section.

John, is a local gardener that enjoys being in the outdoors.  He particularly enjoys mountain running, wild camping, climbing and bushcrafting, and has so far taken part in 21 Mountain marathons and two Ultra Races and counting.

James M, is co-owner of BEE Expeditions, a company that offers hiking experiences to young people and adults primarily from the Manchester area, but based in Halton.  James is very experienced at hiking and he has a summer Mountain Leader qualification.

James D, splits his time between being an Outdoor instructor during the summer months and a chimney sweep the rest of the time, he is also a qualified carer for children with behavioural issues.  He loves the outdoors and his primary hobbies include caving and paragliding.  He has a number of nationally recognised outdoor qualifications, including climbing, sailing and summer Mountain Leader.
